Early Company History
We produced the first Yamaha golf car in 1975. It featured a compact and lightweight design that offered great performance at an affordable price point. The Yamaha Golf-Car company continued to grow, and our carts soon became a common sight on golf courses throughout the world. In the mid-1980s The Yamaha Golf-Car Company released the iconic G-3 Sun Classic that set a new standard for comfort and style. The G-3 Sun Classic featured bucket seats, lots of extra storage, and fully functional headlights and turn signals. It was designated as the original “Neighborhood Vehicle” and its drivers hit the streets in increasingly larger numbers.
Product Innovations
Yamaha has a reputation for high manufacturing standards and we’re proud to be responsible for several design innovations for the competitive golf cart marketplace. We were the first company to develop electronic fuel injection to improve gas mileage and reduce carbon emissions. We’ve developed a gas-powered engine that’s almost as quiet as an electric engine. We also produced the first 48-volt electric golf car in 1996. In 2015 we released the innovative YamaTrack feature for fleet operations. YamaTrack’s cloud-based GPS technology enables managers to remotely monitor their fleets in real time.
The Drive2 QuieTech EFI which was the first golf car to feature a fully independent four-wheel suspension for better traction and a more comfortable ride. In 2019, the Drive2 QuieTech EFI was named the Best Gas-powered Golf Car by Golf Digest for the third year in a row.
