Cleaning is an important yet often overlooked aspect of golf cart maintenance. Besides just making it look better, proper cleaning can help your golf cart last longer and run better. That is why TSI Trailers has created this guide to teach you how to better clean your golf cart.

1. Gather Supplies

Besides a source of water like a hose, we recommend having cleaning products like dish soap or a special golf cart cleaning spray, aluminum cleaner, and a diluted bleach solution or a mold and mildew remover on hand. For the plastic parts of your cart, you will need a plastic color-restoring formula and plastic shine or polish. You can wipe it all down using microfiber towels, paper towels, and a soft-bristle brush.

2. Remove Belongings

Before you move forward with the cleaning, remove any personal items from the cart to avoid damaging them. Always clean your golf cart in an area with good drainage, though your lawn is not recommended as the chemicals you will be using can harm the grass. As a preliminary, spray the tires and undercarriage of your cart to remove excess mud.

3. Take Care of Plastic

Mix dish soap and clean water in a bucket and dip a microfiber towel into it. Use this to clean the parts of your cart that are made from plastic. Alternatively, you can use a spray-on plastic cleaner for the same purpose, though neither of these options should be used to clean the windshield. You will need a special glass cleaner for that.

No matter which method you use, the next step is to wipe it all down with a clean, wet rag. While you may be tempted to save time by using a hose, this can result in water damaging the electronics on your dashboard. Apply a polish or plastic restorer to the plastic to make it shine.

4. Clean Aluminum

Aluminum cleaner and restorer can either be sprayed on or applied with a sponge. After you have rinsed off the cleaner, you can apply aluminum polish if you wish to give it an extra shine.

5. Remove Mold & Mildew

The trick to removing mold or mildew from your cart’s seats is a solution of one part bleach to two parts water applied using a sponge or a special mold/mildew/stain remover spray. Either way, make sure you rinse thoroughly when you are done.

6. Disinfect

Focus your disinfecting efforts on high-touch areas like the handles, grab bars and steering wheel. Luckily, a quick wipe down with a disinfecting wipe is usually all that is needed.
